Extreme Heat Policy

The Woodend Hanging Rock Petanque Club plays its summer social events at the picturesque Hanging Rock Reserve every Thursday evening commencing about 5.30 pm during Eastern Standard Daylight Saving time. We have decided that in this period play will be cancelled on any Thursday the temperature is likely to be above 35C at 5.30 pm, or there are other extreme conditions likely following consultation with the Hanging Rock Park Ranger. In such an event a notice will appear on this website on the Home (Our Club) Page.

With the introducion of Code Red days, the Macedon Ranges Shire Council have also issued a statement regarding the closure of many shire facilities on these extreme fire danger days, and that includes the Hanging Rock Reserve.

For other petanque events that the club organises/conducts away from Hanging Rock our Heat Policy will be guided by the information provided by Sports Medicine Australia, but would normally include the above cancellation or postponement on days of Total Fire Ban and temperatures predicted to be over 35C. Again, in these events a notice of cancellation or postponement will also be prominently displayed on our website at least 24 hours prior to the event start date and we would also attempt to contact all players who have pre-registered for the event.
